Charles Robert Leslie RA (1794 - 1859)
RA Collection: Art
Samuel Cousins' large mezzotint of the Coronation of Queen Victoria, after a painting by C.R. Leslie, was first published in 1843, and an impression was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition that same year. Cousins was already an Associate Engraver (a category of membership since abolished) in 1843 and in 1855 became one of the first engravers (alongside Lumb Stocks) to become a full Member of the Academy after restrictions on engravers were relaxed. Cousins submitted this print as his Diploma Work, and this proof impression, signed in pencil, is a particularly fine example of the print.
