General Note
This is a portfolio on medieval wall and ceiling painting in Germany which appeared ca. 1897; a second series or part appeared in 1928. The plates are unnumbered but, instead, identified by an ornament or symbol. Following the title-page are two tables of contents: firstly, a listing by place and then, secondly, a listing in order of the plates (of which there are 80). Then follows the illustrated text material describing and discussing the plates, and finally the plates themselves.
Binding Note
The portfolio is grey boards with red cloth spine and corners; the red cloth spine is lettered in gold, 'Borrmann. Mittelalt. Malerreien.'
