Content Description
Draft letter. Poynter defends himself over his acceptance of the commission to paint the portrait of
the King. He is critical of the behaviour of
[Henry Tanworth] Wells towards him. Poynter thinks that the portrait should be done by one of the RA's portrait painters. Perhaps the best way would be to commission
Fildes to make a replica of the one he was doing. Nothing definite had been arranged with regard to sittings, and Poynter could easily make it right with the King.
The letter is unsigned and possibly unfinished.
